Unequal Leg Angle

Penn Stainless Products supplies stainless uneven leg angles in 304/304L and 316/316L. Larger uneven leg stainless angles can be manufactured utilizing laser fusion technology.  Laser fused technology also enables engineers and metal buyers to mix thickness or even material grades. Laser fused uneven leg angles can also be supplied in Duplex 2205 and lean Duplex 2201.

All uneven leg angles can be cut to size. Uneven leg stainless angles can be supplied with a polished finish. See below for information specific to unequal leg angles.  Also, see our Structural Products page for structural overview info, including manufacturing techniques.

Forming

Beam and angle forming is a process used to bend an iron to a specific degree or angle.Typically beam forming differs from angle iron rolling, in that it is more concerned with forming the angle iron to a specific angle or degree, rather than a curve or radius. Beam forming processes use applied force to a piece of sheet metal to modify its geometry rather than remove any material, often using a die to create specific shapes (ie I Beams, Tees, etc). The applied force stresses the metal beyond its yield strength, causing the material to  deform, but not to fail. By doing so, the sheet can be bent or stretched into a variety of complex shapes.

Positive Material Identification (PMI)

In some cases, it may be necessary to complete additional positive material identification testing. Penn Stainless Products can complete this testing in house or we can work with an independent laboratory to complete the testing. Please contact us for specific requirements.

Tolerances

Tolerance Variations for Hot-Finished Unequal Leg Angles:

  • Note: For unequal leg angles, the longer leg determines the tolerance for the length of each leg.
  • Weight: For unequal angles of 6 lb/ft or less, the weight tolerances shall not exceed plus or minus 7-1/2 %. For unequal angles over 6 lb/ft, the weight tolerance shall not exceed plus or minus 4-1/2 %.
  • Length of Legs: For unequal angles having legs or flanges up to 6 inch, inclusive, the length tolerance shall not exceed plus or minus 1/8 inch. For unequal angles having legs or flanges over 6 inch, the length tolerance shall not exceed plus 3/16 inch and minus 1/8 inch.
  • Squareness of Legs: The tolerance for the right angle between the legs is plus or minus 2 % degrees.

Straightness Tolerance for Machined Straightened Bars:

HF: 1/8 inch in any 5 foot; but may not exceed 1/8 inch X (length in ft/5)
