Stainless Steel Plate 304H ASTM A240
304H stainless Steel Plate Overview
Unlike 304L, 304H stainless steel plate has a higher carbon content making the stainless steel plate more suitable for use in applications where elevated temperatures are present. It is an austenitic chromium-nickel steel alloy and the greater carbon content delivers an increased tensile and yield strength.
304H stainless steel plate is available for purchase at Penn Stainless Products. It is available in plate mill plates. 304H stainless steel plate is typically stocked in thicknesses between 0.188” and 2.0”. It is available in a wide variety of lengths and widths. Physical Properties of 304H Stainless Steel Plate
304H stainless steel plate is composed of between 0.04% and 0.10% carbon. 304H stainless steel plate is also comprised of at most 0.75% silicon, 2.00% manganese and 0.045% phosphorous. Also contained in 304H stainless steel plate is 0.030% sulfur, between 8.00% and 10.5% nickel and no more than 0.10% nitrogen.
Mechanical Properties of 304H Stainless Steel Plate
The addition of the extra carbon in 304H stainless steel plate greatly effects the mechanical properties of 304H stainless steel plate. The tensile strength of grade 304H stainless steel plate is 74.69 ksi. The yield strength of 304H stainless steel plate at 0.2% is 29.73 ksi. 304H stainless steel plate has an elongation of 40%. On the Brinell hardens scale, 304H stainless steel plate has a hardness of 201 and on the Rockwell B scale, it has a hardness of 92.
Physical Properties of 304H Stainless Steel Plate
304H stainless steel plate has a density of 0.285 lbm/in^3 at 68℉. The coefficient of thermal expansion of 304H stainless steel plate between 68℉ and 212℉ is 9.2 min/in. Between 68℉ and 1,600℉ the coefficient of thermal expansion is 11.0 min/in. 304H stainless steel plate has a thermal conductivity of 9.4 BTU/hr-ft at 212℉ and a 932℉ the thermal conductivity is 12.4 BTU/hr-ft.
